The 4-day Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is one of the best short treks from Pokhara, offering a blend of natural beauty, cultural immersion, and panoramic mountain views. This trek takes you from Pokhara to Tirkhedhunga, up to the large Gurung village of Ghorepani, and ends at Nayapul after visiting the picturesque village of Ghandruk. Known for its historical significance as a stop for traders traveling between Pokhara and Tibet, Ghorepani (which means “horse water”) offers a unique glimpse into Nepalese culture and history.
Day 01: Drive to Nayapul (1,010m) and Trek to Ulleri (1,960m)

After breakfast drive to Nayapul your trekking starting point, this takes 1 hour to reach. First you trek down to the river for about 10 minutes and cross the new suspension bridge then climb up to the main village located on the ridge. Walk through on cobbled stones and then follow the trail along the Modi River for about 20 minutes to arrive at the settlement of Birenthanti for lunch. After lunch the trailThe first day trek starts at Nayapul after 1 and half hours driving by private vehicle from Pokhara. After 20 minutes we begin with a short walk along the banks of the Modi Khola. Then we reach Birethanti (1,015m) a large village that has many shops and teahouses. The main inhabitants of this village are Gurung, Magar and Thakali. Then, the trail continues following the north bank of the Bhurungdi Khola through villages and climbs steadily up the side of the valley to Hille (1,495m). After the short climb, we reach Tikhedhunga (1570m) and further one hour upto Ulleri. Today’s walk offers a short and comparatively easy day, during the journey allowing us to get the full experience of trekking in Nepal. Stay overnight at a tea house. follows the main street of Birethanti going through the bamboo forests and we pass a large waterfall and swimming hole. You follow the Bhurundi Khola on the north bank until you reach Tirkhedhunga. From Tirkhedhunga, the trail crosses a stream on a suspension bridge and then ascends a steep stone staircase to the large Magar village Ulleri at 1960m
Trek to Ghorepani from Ulleri is unique. The trail goes through the beautiful pasture grounds, cultivated terraces, rhododendron and Oak forest with the superb view of South Annapurna (7219m) and Himchuli (6641m). The trail crosses two sparkling clear streams before making a short and final climb to Nangethanti for lunch. In the winter the trail can be covered with snow. From Nangethanti about one hour’s gradual climb will finally lead to Ghorepani. Ghorepani is a large lovely Gurung village.
You will be woken up early morning and trek up to the Poon Hill (3200m) to view a magnificent sunrise over the Annapurna Range. The views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range are truly magnificent from Poon Hill. Shortly afterwards, return back to Ghorepani for breakfast and after breakfast, start trek to Tadapani via Banthanti. From Ghorepani the trail climbs south through the deep forests. The ridge along the trail hides the mountains and makes a steep, sometimes treacherous descent on a narrow path alongside the stream, as the trail continues. The steep descent becomes more gentle way to reach Banthanti. From Banthanti, the trail follows the stream down to a bridge and starts climbing, and entering a field of cane, making some ups and downs past to a vantage point "Tadapani" that offers a brief view of the mountains.The trail becomes slightly easy as you trek on a steady trail through the canopy of the forest. Continue to walk and after two hours you pass through rhododendron forest to reach the settlement named Baishi Kharka with a row of teahouses and lodges on a ridge from here we trek down hill through the small settlements of the Gurung community and arrive at Gurjung village which also boasts of a school. From here again we down trek to Ghandruk. This area offers some of the finest trekking in Nepal. Ghandruk, a huge village is the second largest Gurung village in Nepal. Houses here with slate-roofed are marvelous. The views of Annapurna South from this village is outstanding. Fishtail which is also known locally as Machhapuchre can be seen in 'fish tail' aspect peeps over a forested ridge.
After breakfast, trek through a pleasant down hill trail and then the trail levels out and follows the banks of the river. After having spent a long time at higher altitudes, the heat sometimes makes travelling on the open riverbed an uncomfortable one. After about 3 hours arrive at the riverside settlement of Birethanti for lunch. This is also the main entry point to the Annapurna Conservation Area and after lunch, walk along the high banks of the Modi Khola for about 30 minutes and end trek at Nayapul to meet waiting vehicles for the one hour drive back to Pokhara. Upon arrival check in at the hotel or transfer to airport if you are flying to Kathmandu.
